September 2007 General Meeting:

Our General Meeting on Tuesday, September 4th, featured the program: "Is UBUNTU LINUX on Your Horizon?"  presented by Dave Blair. Dave gave us a brief introduction to Open Source software and how it is developed and supported and discussed UBUNTU Linux along with its major derivatives including UBUNTU, KUBUNTU, EDUBUNTU AND XUBUNTU. The strengths and features of each version, installing applications and updates, and installing UBUNTU Linux on a machine for the first time.

About the Presenter:

Dave Blair is currently a manager at EMCO High Voltage Corporation in Sutter Creek, where he is responsible for the Engineering Department and the IT Department. Previously, he has worked as the Technology Coordinator for a High School, a High School instructor for Physics, Computers and Robotics. He has also been adjunct faculty for Computer Science at Folsom Lake College. From 1976 until 1988, Dave was a Value-Added Reseller of Personal Computers in Southern California, opening one of the very first computer stores in Orange County. From 2002 through 2005, he served as a Zero Divide Fellow with the Community Technology Foundation of California, which was funded by the Pacific Bell / SBC merger.
