About Reviews and Demonstrations
For the Amador Computer Users Group
You must be an ACUG Member in good standing to request software, books or
other items for review. Reviewing is one of the great benefits of membership
in the Amador Computer Users Group.
Most vendors ask that we publish reviews within 2-3 months, and that a copy of the newsletter in
which the review was published be sent to them. When they receive their copy, the club becomes
eligible to ask for another software package to review. Some companies require a completed review
before they will consider sending us a representative to give us a demonstration of the product.
It is very important that we maintain good relations with vendors, by promptly reviewing the
products sent us. It is important to build and keep our good reputation as a User Group.
Please follow the Bytes & Bits review format,
an explanation and example of which can be found here. You will
need to send your review to the Editor of our Bytes & Bits Newsletter
for publication. You can send the file as an attachment to an email or give it to
the editor on disk. You will also need to meet with the
Program Director to set a date for you to demo the program for us sometime in the near future.
Nervous about getting up in front of everyone? We all were the first time. Remember this: just by
using the program and learning about it so that you could write your review, probably makes you
the "expert" on that particular piece of software. Don't feel like an expert? Well join the club!
Now you know how the rest of us "experts" feel! No one knows everything. We are all here to help
one another learn. All of us are truly interested in what you have to say. All of us will try to
help out, if we can, during the demonstration. We are all in this together. That is what the
Amador Computer User Group is all about! Go for it! We are behind you 100%!
If you are interested in being a reviewer, and getting
FREE products, you must sign up officially to do so. You will find the form at
the Membership table at the General Meeting. Please read the agreement carefully
before signing.

Once you have reviewed the software/hardware and given the club a demonstration, the software/hardware belongs to you and you should send in the registration cards as owner of the software/hardware.
If you don't feel you have the time to review the
package, or are unable to review it for any reason after receiving it, just return it complete, with all the manuals, registration
card[s], software/hardware and original packaging to the ACUG Library next General Meeting. We will try to see if someone else would like to review it.
Be sure to remove software from your hard drive completely, and erase all copies.
If you are unable to attend the General Meeting, please make other arrangements
to return the software/hardware as soon as possible by emailing the
Program Director as the club has an obligation to the vendor to publish a timely review.
Thanks for supporting ACUG, enjoy your new product!
