Membership Information

Amador Computer Users Group (ACUG), a non-profit, public benefit 501(c)7 corporation, is in its thirteenth year of operation. ACUG is a member of the Association of PC User Groups, (APCUG) a world-wide organization. ACUG is also a member of several vendor associations and groups: the UGR [User Group Relations], Adobe UG Program, Corel UG Program, Microsoft Mindshare, and other vendor User Group programs.

ACUG membership is based on one yearly fee of $25.00 per household. During the duration of your membership you will receive an emailed monthly newsletter filled with reviews, meeting information, ACUG activities and computer related news articles written by professionals, other UG writers and some of our talented members. In addition, members can attend the General Meeting, any of the numerous Special Interest Group (SIG) meetings, and utilize our "Helping Hands" network of club members willing to answer your questions and help you with your computer problems.

ACUG Members are entitled to discounts, goodies and special offers from vendors [some limits may apply] both locally and nationally. Vendor specials and discounts are emailed to the members. If only a few of these discounts are utilized, you will more than pay for your membership cost. Members may participate in monthly raffles, auctions, and other club events. As a further benefit of membership, members have reviewing privileges, and are able to access many willing club members for personal help and assistance.

ACUG General Meeting Information:

For those of you who have never attended one of our meetings, please feel free to come out and join us at our General Meeting. The General Meeting is held on the 1st Tuesday of each month at the Senior Citizen Center: 229 New York Ranch Road, Jackson CA., from 7 to 9 PM. For more information and to see the upcoming schedule go to the General Meeting Page.

The ACUG Library, open at 6:45 PM every general meeting, has software and other items for sale. Raffle tickets can be purchased there for great prizes. Proceeds support the club and its community service efforts.

Special Interest Group Meetings [SIGs]: A special benefit of being an ACUG member are the SIG meetings. You are welcome to try any of Special Interest Groups listed on the left menu or on the Meeting Page Calendar. Bring along a friend or two! Our membership is growing all the time, and includes business owners, retirees, high school students and families. We have had members as old as 13 and as young as 80, ranging from beginner to experienced. There are even those who have not purchased a computer yet, but just want to learn!

SIGs meet once per month. If you have an interest in a subject that you do not see covered, such as Quicken, and you would like to start a SIG, bring your proposal to a Board of Directors meeting. It takes only two people to make a SIG. One must be the SIG leader and be responsible for holding a meeting at a regular time and place every month. You are not required to be an expert in the subject you wish to cover. The whole point of a SIG is to get together with other people to share ideas, tips, and to learn together.

SIGs may be held in your own home, or in a rented room, but the room rent is the responsibility of the SIG. For instance, the New Users SIG is held at the Senior Center in Jackson. The SIG should not overlap the time period of another SIG, so that club members may attend them all if they so choose. A SIG leader must be a member.

Possible new SIG subjects might be:  Databases, Spreadsheets, Word-processing, Multimedia, Financial, or specific software like Quicken, Microsoft Word,  Microsoft Office, or even hardware such as hand held computers, etc.

Board of Directors Meeting

All members are welcome to attend the Board of Directors Meeting. The meeting is currently held on the first Thursday after the General Meeting at 7 PM. Contact the ACUG Secretary for the current time and location.

For more information about membership, contact our Secretary.
