Comdex One of the oldest and largest computer trade shows, held in the spring and fall. Cancelled in 2004, again in 2005, is this the end? who knows?

Consumer Electronics Show (CES) - Now "International CES", bigger than COMDEX, attendees say it is like the old days. Lots of new products to see, lots of energy. Text of Microsoft's Bill Gates keynote with Jay Leno, worth a little scroll.

APCUG Annual Conference - The Association of PC User groups conference just before the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas with opportunities for round-table discussions, and vendor presentations for user group officers.

Steve Gibson's "Shields Up"
- test your machine for hacker vulnerabilities, no cost, good informational site that is much quoted by the industry. However, this site failed to detect an open port 80 on our network.

Symantec Security Check - Free Symantec Security Check. Test for viruses, test your firewall. The firewall test passed with flying colors in that it did correctly detect our open port 80.

Virus Bulletin Home Page - The International Publication on Computer Virus Prevention, Recognition and Removal

Zone Alarm - firewall protection against Internet thieves, vandals and crackers. Free for personal or non-profit use. 

Virus and Hoax Information from Virus Software Companies:

Avast - free anti-virus for home users and non-commercial use with the Home Edition. Supposedly works with Virtual Machines. Institutions including non-profits may not use this version.

AVG - Grisoft offers AVG anti-virus, AVG Anti-Spyware, AVG Anti-Rootkit free editions for home and non-commercial use. Supposedly anti-virus works with Virtual Machines. Use for organizations or commercial purposes is prohibited.
